Naoko Munakata
Senior Fellow at the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan



Naoko Munakata is a Senior Fellow at the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry in Japan — and a Visiting Scholar at the Sigur Center for Asian Studies at George Washington University.

Before becoming a fellow at RIETI, Ms. Munakata worked extensively on Japan’s Asia policy including Japan-Singapore Economic Partnership Agreement, Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and Japan-ASEAN relations as an official at Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of the Japanese government.

She published "Turning Point of Japan-China Relationship: A Step Toward East Asian Economic Integration," in RIETI's Economic Policy Review Series No. 2, (2001)(in Japanese).

She also published CNAPS (Center for Northeast Asian Policy Studies) Working Papers and CSIS PacNet newsletter opinion articles on East Asian economic integration while she was a 2001-2002 CNAPS Visiting Fellow of the Brookings Institution.

Ms. Munakata received an LLB from the University of Tokyo — and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
