Friedrich Schneider
Professor of Economics at the University of Linz



Friedrich Schneider is Professor of Economics at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz.

He was President of the Austrian Economic Association from 1997 to 1999 — and became an IMF Research Fellow in 1998.

His research interests include economic theory of politics, finance and economic policy. His analyses focus on the economic effects of government interventions.

Mr. Schneider studied economics at the University of Konstanz where he received his doctorate in 1977. He has held numerous teaching positions, including at the University of Zürich (1976-1979) and the University of Aarhus (1984-1985). He has been at the Johannes Kepler University since 1986.

Mr. Schneider also held visiting professorships at the University of Stockholm (1982), Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh (1983-1984), La Trobe University in Melbourne (1987) — and the University of the Saarland (1994-1995).

Mr. Schneider has also published various articles in journals such as the Review of Economics and Statistics, The Economic Journal, Public Choice and The Quarterly Journal of Economics.
