Philip Bobbitt

Philip Bobbitt is the A.W. Walker Centennial Chair in Law at the University of Texas at Austin.

As one of the nation's leading constitutional theorists, Mr. Bobbitt's interests include constitutional law, international security and the history of strategy.

Mr. Bobbitt is a member of the American Law Institute, The Council on Foreign Relations, the Pacific Council on International Policy and the International Institute for Strategic Studies.

Aside from his recent book, "The Shield of Achilles: War, Peace and the Course of History," he has published five other books: Constitutional Interpretation (1991), U.S. Nuclear Strategy (1989), Democracy and Deterrence (1987), Constitutional Fate (1982) and Tragic Choices (1978).

He has served as Associate Counsel in the White House, the counselor on International Law at the State Department and legal counsel to the Senate Iran-Contra Committee.

He has also served as the director for Intelligence, senior director for Critical Infrastructure and senior director for Strategic Planning at the National Security Council.

Mr. Bobbitt earned his BA from Princeton in 1971, his JD from Yale in 1975 and a Ph.D. from Oxford in 1983.
