Sir Martin Rees is Royal Society Professor at Cambridge University, a Fellow at King's College — and holds the honorary title of England's Astronomer Royal.
He studied mathematics at Trinity College Cambridge, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in 1964. Subsequently, he became a graduate student at Cambridge.
Mr. Rees' awards include the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society, the Balzan International Prize, the Bruce Medal of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, the Heineman Prize for Astrophysics (AAS/AIP), the Bower Award for Science of the Franklin Institute, the Cosmology Prize of the Peter Gruber Foundation and the Einstein Award of the World Cultural Council.
He has published several books including four for general readership, "Just Six Numbers," "Before the Beginning," Gravity's Fatal Attraction" and "Our Cosmic Habitat."
Mr. Rees was born in 1942, and grew up in Shropshire, a rural part of England. He now lives in Cambridge, England.
