Lord George Robertson

Lord George Robertson is former NATO secretary general, serving from 1999 to 2003. Previously, he was British Defense Secretary from 1997 to 1999 and a Member of the British Parliament from 1978 to 1999.

Currently, Lord Robertson is Deputy Chairman at Cable & Wireless.

George Islay MacNeill Robertson was born in 1946 in Scotland, educated at Dunoon Grammar School and the University of Dundee. He graduated MA (Honours) in Economics in 1968.

After the 1997 General Election, Prime Minister Blair appointed him Defense Secretary of the United Kingdom, a position he held until his departure in October 1999. In August 1999, he was selected to be the tenth Secretary General of NATO.

He is married and has three children. His hobbies include photography, golf and reading.
