Emma Bonino
Member of the European Parliament




Emma Bonino has been a Member of the European Parliament since 1999.

Between 1994 and 1999, she served as the European Union’s Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid, Fisheries, Consumer Policy, Consumer Health Protection and Food Safety. Ms. Bonino’s other major international commitments have included the European

Parliament’s 2004 delegation to the Darfur region of Sudan.

In the European Parliament, where she had previously served from 1979 to 1984 and from 1986 to 1988, she is currently a member of the Committees on Budget and on Foreign Affairs. Ms. Bonino also is the Vice President of the European Parliament delegation with Mashreq countries and Secretary General of Italy’s Transnational Party.

In 1999, she was appointed as a Board Member of the International Crisis Group. Ms. Bonino is also a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the American University of Cairo.
