Robert Irwin is a British historian, novelist and writer on Arabic literature.
He was a lecturer in Medieval History at the University of St. Andrews from 1972 to 1977. He has also been a part-time lecturer in the Arabic departments of Oxford and Cambridge, the history department of the School of Oriental and African Studies, London and the Victoria University in British Columbia among many other institutions.
In addition, he was the consulting editor at the Times Literary Supplement, the Director of Dedalus (publishing) and a member of the Board of Advisors, Yale University Press.
Mr. Irwin is also a member of the Institute of Historical Research, London University, a patron of the National Academy of Writing, Fellow of the London Institute of ’Pataphysics and a Senior Research Associate in the Department of History, School of Oriental and African Studies at the London University.
Mr. Irwin has written many books including "The Alhambra" and "The Arabian Nights: A Companion."
He is a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society, Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and a Fellow of the British Society for Middle Eastern Studies.
Mr. Irwin studied modern history at the University of Oxford and did graduate research at The School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London.
