We invite you to join us in our daily exploration into the many facets globalization.

uring the mid-1990s, in the midst of big disagreements and debates about the pros and cons of globalization, we were struck by the futility, if not dishonesty, of trying to find a single, definitive answer to the biggest story of our lifetime — globalization.

To us, it seemed much more promising to think about globalization on a continuous basis — and to offer fresh insights into this gigantic puzzle in daily installments.

The Globalist is dedicated to promoting global understanding and learning by exploring the global economy, politics, history and culture from the vantage point of the global community — through one new feature each day. The first daily edition of the Globalist was published on January 3, 2000.

Covering the biggest story of our lifetime

We focus on what unites and divides countries, societies and cultures, what challenges they face in the globalization era — and what solutions they can offer to the global community.

Through cross-country comparisons, our features provide the key to understanding our common future.

To make the “big issue” accessible to many audiences, we break globalization down into short articles, photo galleries, book excerpts, quizzes, fact sheets, charts, quotes collections and short radio commentaries.

An open forum

The overarching goal is to help audiences everywhere in the world to make up their own mind on the issue of globalization.

The Globalist is written and edited by global-minded citizens, whether in-house staff or external. And it is read by citizens all over the world interested in better understanding emerging pathways to everybody’s global future.

The diversity of perspectives we offer ensures that our content does not advance the interests, value systems or perspectives of any one nation.
