Spring 2008 Internships

The Globalist is looking for interns with a keen interest in global issues and working in a dynamic, multicultural, team-oriented environment.

Deadline for Spring 2008 applications: December 1, 2007

Economic research internships

Economic research interns will work under the guidance of The Globalist's research and editorial staff. They will collect and analyze macro- and micro-economic data on a wide ranging of topics — and prepare their findings for publication in short reports.

Research interns should be highly proficient in Internet research and data collection. They should also be thoroughly familiar with data analysis and presentation in Microsoft Excel, including graphing and charting functions. Proficiency with PowerPoint, Photoshop, and web editing tools such as Dreamweaver is a strong plus.

Journalism internships

Journalism interns will work closely with The Globalist's editorial staff in preparing, editing and fact-checking features as well as working with the layout and publication of the website. They will see the tangible results of their work made available to readers worldwide.

Beyond general internship requirements, journalism interns should have solid writing experience. Familiarity with web editing tools such as Dreamweaver is helpful.

Marketing internships

Our marketing interns will assist senior staff in a variety of media outreach activities and the marketing of our executive briefing and e-learning products.

Marketing interns should have good organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to research, analyze and utilize market data.

Information technology/Web internships

Primary responsibilities include troubleshooting hardware and software problems, testing proprietary databases and programs, and creating and maintaining Web pages.

You will gain experience in working with various databases, programming and web application languages, including Access, SQL, C++, C#, Visual Basic.NET and ASP.NET.

Our interns generally meet the following criteria:

- Enrollment in an under/graduate program in international studies, economics, journalism, foreign languages, political science or other field relevant to the internship position

- Excellent writing, analytical, research and communications skills

- Fluency in language(s) other than English

- International experience through travel, living abroad or study-abroad programs

Our internships are unpaid. During the academic semesters, interns are expected to commit at least 16 hours a week to The Globalist. Summer interns are expected to devote a minimum of 24 hours a week to their internships.
