John Stevens

Former Member of the European Parliament

John Stevens served in the European Parliament from 1989-99. He is now a member of the supervisory board of THS fund management.

In 1989, he was elected an MEP for the Conservative Party from the Thames Valley, eventually serving as Vice Chairman of the European Parliament’s Economic & Monetary Affairs Committee. In the European Parliament, he was involved in all the legislation for the creation of the Euro.

He was also the European Parliament’s representative on the EBRD and on the European Monetary Institute, which became the European Central Bank. After 1999, he has been an adviser on the economics of the Eurozone as well as being an investor in a number of enterprises, particularly in Eastern Europe.

After a time working in France, Germany and Italy for Banque Indosuez, Bayerische Hypotheken Bank and Reuters, he joined Morgan Grenfell in 1979, where he became a Director and head of the bank’s European Currency and Government Bond Trading Operation.

Mr. Stevens was educated at Winchester and Magdalen College, Oxford, where he received a degree in law.
