Omid Nouripour

Politician, member of the committees on Foreign Affairs and Human Rights

Omid Nouripour is the Greens’ spokesperson on Foreign Policy. He is a member of the committees on Foreign Policy and Human Rights.

Since September 2006, Omid Nouripour has been a member of the German Parliament, taking the vacated seat of Joschka Fischer, the former German foreign minister. He first worked on European issues and Internal affairs and was later member of both, the Budget Committee, as well as the Committee of Defence.

Nouripour has been an active member of the German Green Party (Alliance 90/The Greens) since 1996. From 1999 until 2003, he was the chairman of the Green Party’s Youth Organisation in Hessen.

In December 2002, he was elected to the managing board of the federal Green Party and stayed in office until December 2006. From 2002 until 2009, he was also the spokesperson of the Green Party’s federal Working Committee on Migrants and Refugees.

While at university, his jobs included assisting members of the European and German Parliament. He also worked as a freelance journalist for one of Germany’s largest newspapers.

Nouripour studied German Philology, Political Science and Law at the Johannes Gutenberg-University of Mainz.

He came to Frankfurt/Main with his family at the age of thirteen.
