Mind the (Gender) Gap With the holiday shopping season about to kick into high gear, let's explore the subject of leisure time. We wonder: Is it true or false that men in the developed world have more leisure time than women? The correct answer is True. According to the OECD, each day American men have an extra 38 minutes of leisure time when compared to women. While that may not
sound like a lot, it adds up to 13,870 minutes or almost ten days. But American men aren't even the ones with the biggest leisure-time differential in their power. The world champion, at least among developed countries, would be Italy. There, men have an average of 79 minutes more leisure time each day than women. Each year, that works out to 20 days more leisure time for men. And, in neighboring Mexico, men similarly have 52 additional minutes of leisure time per day. However, the figure falls to just 20 minutes in Japan. |
