Christiane Bird is a journalist and author.

Ms. Bird’s most recent work, “A Thousand Sighs, A Thousand Revolts,” is based on her travels through the Kurdish regions of Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria in 2002, shortly before the outbreak of the Iraq war.

She has authored numerous other books, all of which involved extensive travel and cultural immersion. These include, “Neither East nor West: One Woman’s Journey Through the Islamic Republic of Iran,” “The Jazz and Blues Lover’s Guide to the U.S” — and the “New York State Handbook.”

Ms. Bird is also the co-author of “Below the Line: Living Poor in America.”

She has also worked extensively as a travel and freelance writer for the New York Daily News, The Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post and the Chicago Tribune.

Ms. Bird is a graduate of Yale University and lives in New York City.
