Charles Kupchan

Associate Professor of International Relations, Georgetown University

Charles Kupchan is an Associate Professor of International Relations in the School of Foreign Service and Government Department at Georgetown University.

He is also a Senior Fellow and Director of Europe Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations.

Mr. Kupchan was Director for European Affairs on the National Security Council during the first Clinton administration. Before joining the NSC, he worked in the U.S. Department of State on the Policy Planning Staff. Prior to government service, he was an Assistant Professor of Politics at Princeton University.

Mr. Kupchan received a B.A. from Harvard University and M.Phil. and D.Phil. degrees from Oxford University.

He has served as a visiting scholar at Harvard University’s Center for International Affairs, Columbia University’s Institute for War and Peace Studies, the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London, and the Centre d’Etudes et de Recherches Internationales in Paris.

Mr. Kupchan is the author of among other books: “The End of the American Era,” “The Vulnerability of Empire,” “Power in Transition: The Peaceful Change of International Order” and “The Persian Gulf and the West”.
