Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at The George Washington University

Henry R. Nau is Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at the Elliott School of International Affairs at The George Washington University.

He has also taught at Williams College and as Visiting Professor at Johns Hopkins SAIS, Stanford and Columbia Universities.

From January 1981 to July 1983, Mr. Nau served in the White House as a senior staff member of the National Security Council responsible for international economic affairs.

He is a former member of the U.N. Committee for Development Planning and the U.S. Department of State’s Advisory Committee on International Investment.

Mr. Nau also served two years as a Lieutenant in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

He holds a B.S. degree in Economics, Politics, and Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology — and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
