Lawrence Herzog

Professor of City Planning at San Diego State University

Lawrence A. Herzog is a writer, photographer and college professor from the United States who has been residing in Mexico since January 2001.

Mr. Herzog has lived in Mexico intermittently, but his permanent home is San Diego, California, where he is a professor of city planning in the School of Public Administration and Urban Studies at San Diego State University.

Mr. Herzog has been a Fulbright Scholar in Peru, a Graham Foundation fellow in Mexico, and a consultant to the U.S. Agency for International Development (Peru and Bolivia), the U.S. Embassy in Mexico, the American Institute of Architects, Environmental Protection Agency, California Department of Transportation, Pacific News Services (San Francisco) and San Diego’s KPBS-TV.

Mr. Herzog writes frequently for media publications, and is the author or editor of five books, including his recent “From Aztec to High Tech: Architecture and Landscape Across the Mexico-United States Border.”

His other books include “Where North Meets South” and “Shared Space: Rethinking the U.S.-Mexico Border Environment.”

His essays have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, New York Newsday, Buzz, Harvard Design Magazine, Times of the Americas, San Jose Mercury News, San Diego Union Tribune and other publications.
