Robert D. Hormats is Vice Chairman of Kissinger Associates. He served as Under Secretary Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment at the U.S. State Department from 2009 to mid-2013.

Prior to that, he was Vice Chairman, Goldman Sachs (International) and Managing Director of Goldman, Sachs & Co.

Mr. Hormats has also served as Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs, Ambassador and Deputy U.S. Trade Representative and as Senior Deputy Assistant Secretary for Economic and Business Affairs at the Department of State. He also served as a Senior Staff Member for International Economic Affairs on the National Security Council.

Mr. Hormats is a board member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a member of the Board of Visitors of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and the Dean’s Council of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He is a member of the Advisory Boards of Foreign Policy and International Economics magazines.

Mr. Hormats is the author of three books, including “The Global Economy” (1990), “Global Aging and Financial Markets” (2002) and “The Price of Liberty” (2007). He is a recipient of the French Legion of Honor and the Arthur Fleming Award.
