Director of the Emerging Economies Programme, the Foreign Policy Centre

Seema Desai is director of the Emerging Economies Programme at the Foreign Policy Centre, a London-based think tank launched under the patronage of British Prime Minister Tony Blair. The programme examines the consequences of the economic and political ascent of China and India in the world.

Previously, she worked for Schroders as Asia economist for six years, including during the years of the Asian economic crisis.

Ms. Desai has been a frequent media commentator on Asian affairs and has traveled widely in the region. Seema has also worked with the World Bank on Southern Africa.

She has degrees in economics and Asian history and politics from Oxford and London universities. Seema was born in the United States and brought up in New Delhi, India.
