Professor of Economics, Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena

Dr. Andreas Freytag is Professor of Economics at the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena, Germany. He is a senior research fellow at the European Centre for International Political Economy and a senior research associate at the South African Institute of International Affairs.

Earlier, he worked at the Kiel Institute for World Economics, at the Universities of Cologne and Cambridge — as well as at the Bank of Estonia.

Dr. Freytag was the 2008 Bradlow Fellow of SAIIA and has taught at the University of Stellenbosch as well as the Tallinn University of Technology, where he has been a visiting professor since 2003.

He was a member of the executive board of the European Public Choice Society from 2006 to 2009 and has long been associated with the G8 Research Group at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Freytag has published a number of books and articles and has been a consultant for the OECD and several government agencies and private groups in Germany.
