Dr. Eberhard Sandschneider is the Director of the Research Institute of the German Society for Foreign Policy(DGAP) in Berlin.

Previously, Mr. Sandschneider was the Dean of the Department of Political and Social Sciences and directed the Center for Chinese and East Asian Politics at the Freie Universität in Berlin, where he had taught Chinese Politics and International Relations since 1998.

Starting with his Ph.D. thesis on military and politics of China, completed in 1986 — and throughout his tenures at the universities of Saarbrücken, Mainz and Berlin — his research focus has been on international relations of the Asia-Pacific region, as well as on the stability and transformation of political systems.

Dr. Sandschneider is the (co-)editor of three German scholarly journals and book series. He has written and edited over ten books, the most recent ones entitled Chinese Cyberspaces: Technological Changes and Political Effects (forthcoming) and The Study of Modern China (1999).
