Elke Richter lives in the small town of Mörfelden-Walldorf near Frankfurt. She started her career in a tax-consulting firm. After her second son was born with a severe disability in 1995, she dedicated herself to his care.

In 2004, she started teaching and helping migrant children with homework in a primary school. After the death of her second son in 2014, she began to volunteer in the assistance network for asylum seekers in her town as a German teacher.
