Dean of International Studies at Bard College, New York

Jonathan A. Becker is Dean of International Studies and Associate Professor of Political Studies at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. He is also the director of Bard’s Globalization and International Affairs Program in New York City.

Previously, he served as Assistant Vice President of the Central European University in Budapest and the European Director of the Civic Education Project.

He also served as a consultant to the National Intelligence Council on its Global Trends 2020 project.

Dr. Becker has written a book entitled Soviet and Russian Press Coverage of the United States: Press, Politics and Identity in Transition (Palgrave, 1999 with revised and expanded edition in 2003)

He has also published several articles focusing on news media in Russia and around the world, including ‘Lessons from Russia: A Neo-Authoritarian Media System’ which appeared in the European Journal of Communication in June, 2004.

Dr. Becker earned his BA from McGill University in 1987 and his D.Phil from St. Antony’s College, Oxford in 1993.
