German Foreign Minister

Joschka Fischer is Germany’s Foreign Minister and Vice Chancellor.

A member of the Green Party since 1983, he was the first German Green to take up a government post, as environment minister in Hesse.

From 1994 through 1998, Mr. Fischer was Parliamentary spokesman of the Alliance of the 90’s. His election in 1998 marked the political triumph of the Green Party.

In the term of his active political career, Prime Minister Fischer has published several prominent writings, including the political diary of a former secretary of the environment and a book, The Left One After Socialism.

Mr. Fischer attended university at Nanterre, outside Paris.
