Prime Minister of Japan

Junichiro Koizumi was elected as the 87th Prime Minister of Japan in 2001.

In 1991, he was Chief Deputy Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party. Mr. Koizumi served as the Minister of Health and Welfare in 1988 and again in 1996 and 1997.

His past government posts have included Chairman of the National Organization Committee of the LDP and Chairman for the Research Commission on Fundamental Policies for Medical Care.

Mr. Koizumi was also the Parliamentary Vice-President of Finance in 1979.
