Michael J. Mandel is the chief economist for Business Week. He has been writing on subjects such as crime, the New Economy and budget deficits for over a decade.

“Rational Exubernace” is Mr. Mandel’s third published book — following the success of “The High-Risk Society” and “The Coming Internet Depression.”

Mr. Mandel began his career with a PhD in economics from Harvard University and later became a professor at New York University’s Stern School of Business.

Mr. Mandel is married with two children.
