After an early career as an intelligence officer serving in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, Richard Oliver Collin earned a doctorate in politics at Oxford University.

While continuing to travel widely, he now divides his time between South Carolina, where he teaches politics at Coastal Carolina University, and East Yorkshire, where he writes.

Mr. Collin is the author of three novels and several books of political history as well as a series of scholarly publications on political violence and the role of languages in politics.
