Executive Director, Institute for New Economic Thinking

Dr. Johnson currently is the Executive Director of the newly formed Institute for New Economic Thinking(INET), an organization founded by 25 leading economists and policymakers to advance the paradigm of economic thinking around the world.

He is also the Director of Economic Policy for the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute (FERI) in New York.

Mr. Johnson currently serves on the United Nations Commission of Experts on International Monetary Reform under the Chairmanship of Joseph Stiglitz.

Previously, he was a managing director at Soros Fund Management where he managed a global currency, bond and equity portfolio specializing in emerging markets.

Prior to that, Mr. Johnson was a managing director of Bankers Trust Company managing a global currency fund.

Robert Johnson also served as Chief Economist of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee under the leadership of Chairman William Proxmire (D-WI) — and before that as Senior Economist of the U.S. Senate Budget Committee under the leadership of Chairman Pete Domenici (R-NM).

Mr. Johnson received Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from Princeton University and a B.S. in both Electrical Engineering and Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
